As a California resident, you may be aware of the state’s initiative to ban the sale of gas-powered water heaters by 2030. We have installed thousands of both gas and electric water heaters for customers across San Diego County, and we understand that many folks are circumspect about having fewer choices when it comes to their homes. Here, we give a brief overview of the proposed ban and what it means for you and your household.
As you are undoubtedly aware, the state of California has undergone a major effort to go increasingly green. In September 2022, California Air Resources Board (CARB) voted to ban the sale of gas-powered furnaces and water heaters by 2030. While this is still a way off, it is an inevitability. The plan is to transition away from fossil fuel-dependent technologies and align California with EPA standards, limiting the ozone present in the atmosphere to .70 parts per million. This will decrease the amount of dangerous nitrogen oxides emitted and improve outdoor air quality.
How does this proposal affect you, exactly? At present, no action is mandated. It simply means that, come 2030, you will no longer have the option of purchasing a gas-powered water heater. When the ban goes into effect, the state will have rebates on electric units available to provide a financial assist. In addition, there are some rebates and tax incentives currently available as well.
Change can be scary, and JG Water Heaters is here to help you navigate the shift with confidence, prepare you for what’s coming, and answer any questions you may have. In addition to gas-powered water heaters and tankless water heaters, we offer options that correspond to the state’s initiative, such as electric water heaters and heat-pump hybrids.
